Dear Jane,

To let you know we’re still alive! Temperatures are falling; it’s about 0 degrees Celsius here tonight in Hannover, but beautifully crisp. Unfortunately German railway stations have no waiting rooms for some reason, so it’s really difficult to find anywhere warm unless one forks out for coffee! Just had a genuine “Bratwurst” with mustard, & last night had a “curry-wurst.” Superb! But Germany is rather expensive after France.

Goslar is beautiful – one of the few places not destroyed during the war. So much here is new & shiny; pedestrian plazas & neon lights. Visited the black forest Freiburg, Hamburg, Lubeck, Bremen & Hannover in 3 days! Have a ticket for 9 days unrestricted use of trains, so we’re going mad with over-night trips & will probably end up circling Germany about 3 times. Tomorrow Munich & we’ll treat ourselves to a hotel. Will go to the ski resorts on day trips then to Augsburg, Heidelberg, Cologne, then Berlin as my ticket runs out!

Love, B & K
